The new Audi A4 Avant
...consists of 27 individual components which were produced with lots of love for detail in Dietenhofen near Nuremberg and then assembled by hand.
This model is one of 230 Audi models and 31 Audi A4 types in Herpa's catalogue.
This new 2016 style boasts a 252-horsepower2 TFSI® engine and is available quattro® all-wheel drive. It is called a limousine, which is a term for a sedan in some countries, not to be confused with a luxury sedan or saloon car generally driven by a chauffeur and with a partition between the driver and the passenger compartment.
Audi A4 Avant
Herpa safely packs these models in a flexible plastic box that does a splendid job of protecting the model from mishandling.
Herpa's model features excellent molding and factory assembly. I found no flaws - flash, sprue burrs, ejector marks, nor glue smears. Surface detail includes raised and recessed detail, as appropriate. Underneath is a token chassis. Plastic-rubber hybrid tires surround the finely detailed hubcaps. Clear plastic windows free of distortion allows one to see inside and admire the interior.
Herpa's tooling allows small fine detail.
Kick the tires
Fine tread detail is molded along the rims of the tires but not on the entire surface. Tiny windshield wipers are molded along the windscreen. Fine grille detail up front complements fine exhaust pipes in back.
Through that windshield you can see a detailed interior of seats, steering wheel, consoles, dashboard, and a separate attached rear view mirror!
Two attached side mirrors detail the exterior. So do clear lenses that simulate the head and brake lights. The rear lenses are tinted.
Whether painted or molded in color, this A4 has a shiny finish. This model is painted monsungrau metallic / monsun grey metallic. Herpa detailed trim it with chrome silver including tiny Audi emblems. Printed on the back are the symbol and "A4". Herpa does not use decals.
Sign & drive
This model A4 Avant is a fine model of a modern Audi wagon. It features excellent molding, separately applied mirrors, clear lenses for head and tail lights, and an excellent finish.
I do not have much criticism, just the lack of full tread detail on the tires.
Current-era HO train modelers, car modelers and collectors should all appreciate this model. Recommended.
