Introduction
Old Bicycles is a set of four photo-etched bicycles from Artitec. It is item 387.02 on Artitec's website. That is different from the item number on the package I received: 10.243. I saw the set in N scale, too.

Artitec makes several sets of HO bicycles.

The Bikes
These four bicycles are sharply formed with photo-etched brass. There are three types: two women's bikes of the same design, two men's bikes of different designs. Each has a chain guard and mud guards.

The brass is easy to cut, easy to smooth away cutting burrs, and easy to bend. If you do not intend to prime them right away, use care handling them. Dark finger prints started to show on one a few says after I held it.

Their size in-scale? I pose them with a 1/87 GAZ-69 and with two Roco MiniTanks figures.

Detail
These minuscule masterpieces are full of detail. Notice the bells on the handlebars? The little headlight and rear light? Rear luggage rack?

Instructions & Assembly
Each bike easily snipped off the fret. I used tweezers to bend the seats, handlebars, pedals, and kick stands. All four bikes took about 10 minutes to ready.

The bikes are thin and flat. I think a nice thick coat of paint with suffice to inflate the tires and pad the seats.

Instructions are simple with black-and-white line art. Humbrol paint is referenced - 6 colors.

Conclusion
Modelers of HO/1:87 should enjoy these tiny bikes. They will add a lot of interest to model railroad layouts and to non-railroad dioramas. Each bicycle is sharply etched in soft malleable brass. Detail is high. As small as these models are in HO, I am not bothered by the flatness of the pieces.

I am impressed with these bicycles and recommend them.
SUMMARY
Highs: Each bicycle is sharply etched in soft malleable brass. Detail is high.
Lows: De minimis.
Verdict: Modelers of HO/1:87 should enjoy these tiny bikes. They will add a lot of interest to model railroad layouts and to non-railroad dioramas.
