Introduction

Pegasus Hobbies of Montclair, California, USA, produces an expanding line of models of fantasy and military subjects, and for war gaming. Their military ranges from WW2 German and US subjects from WW2, Korea, Vietnam and today’s War On Terror. Additionally and predominantly 1/72, they make model palm trees, crates, barb wire, cactus, buildings, and other embellishments which model railroaders will appreciate.

I have not sampled 1/72 infantry figures in quite a while, and am thus not well versed as to the state of this genre. Curious about the quality of their figures, I ordered Pegasus Hobbies’ second figure set of their 1st SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler, "Waffen SS, Set 2, 1943 Kursk L.A.H.". These are certainly not the 1/72 figures by Airfix and MPC of my youth!

The Kit

Though molded in soft plastic with a strong chemical smell, these 43 individual soldiers feature incredible detail, such as:

  • Many figures have separate heads and arms
  • Facial detail
  • Weapon slings
  • Individual entrenching tools
  • Haystack camouflage for a sniper
  • Bases

Gruesomely, a casualty even has bullet hole in his chest.

    Conclusion

I have not experimented to see if all of the arms are specific to a particular body or if they can be interchanged for variety. “A picture is worth a thousand words“, thus I offer you ten thousand descriptions. I have not tried painting yet but will provide some examples soon.

    Recommend.

I'm a professional pilot with a degree in art. My first model was an AMT semi dump truck. Then Monogram's Lunar Lander right after the lunar landing. Next, Revell's 1/32 Bf-109G...cried havoc and released the dogs of modeling! My interests--if built before 1900, or after 1955, then I proba...
