Herpa Miniaturmodelle GmbH has become a dominate manufacturer of cars and trucks and aircraft in HO and N scale, and aircraft in scales ranging from HO, N, 1/200, 1/400, 1/500, and even 1/1000. Their line of automobiles extends to Z scale (1/220). In addition to the series of vehicles, Herpa produces lighting and sound kits, Scenix sets, airbrushes, and now distribute the former Roco Minitanks. Herpa is known for high quality and detail.

Since 1978, Herpa has produced high-quality models of a wide range of car and truck types and embracing the latest technologies.

Audi A1

The Audi A1 is a supermini-class car launched by Audi at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Sales of the initial three door A1 model are anticipated to start in continental Europe in the summer of 2010, followed by the United Kingdom in September 2010. A five door A1 Sportback model is also expected to be launched later. The engines range will initially comprise turbocharged 1.2 (86 PS (63 kW; 85 bhp)) and 1.4 litre (122 PS (90 kW; 120 bhp)) petrol engines, plus a 1.6 litre common rail diesel engine (105 PS (77 kW; 104 bhp)). Manual transmission will be standard on all engines, and a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission will be optional on the 1.4 petrol engine. All engines will include a start-stop system and energy recuperation system.*

Herpa Audi A1

Herpa quality is unquestionable with this new model. The model is fully assembled and packed in a light plastic form-fitted tray, surrounded by a light card label, and secured in a light plastic box with opening ends. Though the plastic is flexible and the packaging appears quite flimsy, the Audi did survive the perilous postal journey, arriving in a crushed box unscathed!

The molding is flawless. The impalabeigemetallic (impala beige metallic) body paint is thin, opaque, and glass-smooth. The chrome trim appears to be hand painted, as does the rim of the exhaust and the driving lights, all to a high standard. The and black chrome around the windows appears to be printed. The rims of the low-profile tires are molded in color. The Audi logo on the rear is printed, not a decal. The model scales out to 12 ft 8 in.

Molded Details

Herpa engineered the low-profile tires to slip over the rims and molded them in soft plastic.

Individual colored lenses simulate the headlights, tail lights, and as far as I can tell, the side mirrors!

Inside the car are seats, the steering wheel and a rear view mirror! I have not seen an A1 underside but Herpa molded some detail under the car.

The only flaw I found is the model has only a single exhaust pipe. The A1 on the Audi website shows two.

Summary

This is a high quality model that demonstrates why Herpa models are highly regarded. The finish, the interior and exterior detailing is second to none. It will enhance any present day HO model scene. Recommend.

We thank Herpa for allowing KitMaker Network to premier this model that has not been released to the public yet!
