S.P. Ice Breaker Bars - Tall Style - F, E, & PA Units
Introduction Model railroading is fun and for many of us part of that fun modeling a particular prototype, even during a specific time. Railroads and equipment manufacturers have given us a bewildering number of modifications to model. These are often unique items and not practical for model makers to mass produce or install at the factory. Riding to the rescue are model makers like Hi-Tech Details!
Hi-Tech Details of Ukiah, California, have been around for a while supplying the HO market with innovative details sets. They market highly detailed accessories for correcting, scratchbuilding, and modifying model railroad locomotives and cars. In addition, Hi-Tech Details (HTD) also produces model kits of complete cars, and line side items.
Hi-Tech Details also makes models and accessories for N and O scale.
Hi-Tech Details website is hi-tech, too! Many of their sets and kits feature click-to-access how-to features and instructions.
S.P. Ice Breaker Bars - Tall Style F, E, & PA UnitsHTD currently lists 32 plastic and rubber diesel detail sets on their site. This set is packed in a plastic bag stapled to HTD’s vivid fuchsia and black card label. It allows you to detail your Southern Pacific Railroad ("Espee") covered wagon units for the snowy routes of Espee. S.P. had many tunnels and snow sheds to pass through and affixed these breakers to try to keep the ceilings clear of ice.
The kit is a simple single sprue of black parts. All are crisply molded without flash, ejector marks, seam lines or sink marks. They have nice bolt detail.
A basic mounting diagram and instructional text is printed on both sides of the label. A .020 drill is needed to make the mounting holes.
ConclusionThis is a simple set of simple parts to allow you to modify your Espee covered wagons so as to keep your model tunnels clear of model ice. They are nicely molded and I think you will be happy with them.
Please remember, when contacting retailers or manufacturers, to mention that you saw their products highlighted here – on RailRoadModeling.net.
Highs: A simple set of simple parts that are nicely molded.
Verdict: If you want to detail your S.P. covered wagon locos, this is a detail overlooked by manufacturers. These are nice parts.
