Introduction
NOCH Laser-cut minis series continues to expand to help model railroaders and dioramaists achieve more accurate and authentic scenes. With 25 separate manhole covers and drain grates the set Drain Covers helps modelers with these oft overlooked details.

In the box
One thin card "sprue" of 25 pieces is packed in a label-backed end-opening carton. An text-only instruction sheet in six languages is included. The same information is available in PDF form at the NOCH website.

The very thin card holds:

    4 x manhole covers/drains on a square foundation
    4 x round perforated covers
    4 x round solid covers
    5 x large square grates
    8 x small rectangular grates

The parts are sharply cut with a laser. Each piece is held to the card by very fine tabs. Several covers have fine detail etched into them.

Paint
The card is a tan-gray. I don't think this looks real so I brushed them with a dirty brown and steel mixture to simulate cast iron parts that I see on local streets. When the paint dried the sheet warped slightly; happily the parts lied flat on the diorama after removing them from the sheet.

Conclusion
Drain Covers helps modelers achieve a more accurate and authentic scene with these oft overlooked details. I am impressed with the surgical precision with which the pieces are cut. That they warped slightly with paint did not detract from them once applied to the road. Twenty-five pieces for the price is an excellent bargain.

I happily recommend this set to model railroaders and dioramaists.
