This is Rusty Rail's HO casting Hobo Shack #1. It is a neat compact casting with personality and detail.

Hobo Shack No.1
Rusty Rail packages this casting is a clear plastic bag closed with a card label.

This one-piece casting is of a small shack of scrap lumber and tin along with the proud proprietor, a firewood stack, and various boxes and barrels and drums. It will fit anywhere with a footprint of 2" long by 1 1/2" wide and 1" tall.

Rusty Rail sharply cast this model with good undercuts. I did not have to clean up any excess resin - just wash and paint. The detail is very clear and represents distressed lumber. The hobo did not cobble together a complex structure, just one door with no windows, a single pitch roof and a scrap pipe chimney. It doesn't look like he was generous with nails as a discarded tire and boards help hold down the corrugated roofing sheets.

Hanging on the front of the shack is a lantern and a round object. A fine cord of firewood is stacked next to one side. The other side is cluttered with a drum, a barrel, and crates. Tools and scrap fill them. Around back is a vehicle radiator.

The hobo is leaning against his castle.

Conclusion
I like this neat little kit. It is appropriate for many scenes and many eras. It features overall crisp detail and good recessed areas.

It does appear that the barrel is not completely formed and the the metal drum looks like it is covered with rough debris.

I had a great time painting this little model and recommend it as an interesting compact model of a ubiquitous dwelling.

I'm a professional pilot with a degree in art. My first model was an AMT semi dump truck. Then Monogram's Lunar Lander right after the lunar landing. Next, Revell's 1/32 Bf-109G...cried havoc and released the dogs of modeling! My interests--if built before 1900, or after 1955, then I proba...
