2-8-4 Berkshire, NKP 765

Based in New Haven, Indiana, just outside of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is NKP 765. She belongs to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society, Inc.

NKP 765 was built in 1944 and weighs in at 400 tons.

Nickel Plate Road Berkshires were designed to move heavy meat trains at high speed from slaughterhouses around Chicago to markets east. While many railroads operated 2-8-4s, many consider the Nickle Plate locos as the epitome of steam locomotive aesthetics.
