1⁄1McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
McCormick-Stillman Railroad ParkMcCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is a 40-acre (16 ha) railroad park located in Scottsdale, Arizona. It features a 15 in (381 mm) gauge railroad, a Magma Arizona Railroad locomotive, a railroad museum, three model railroad clubs and a 7 1⁄2 in (190.5 mm) gauge live steam railroad.*
The Park TodayI've been visiting the park since 1983. It keeps improving. Today it hosts a tribute to the Arizona Merci train, large club-size model railroads in O27, HO and N scales, some large-scale doll houses, 1/1 passenger cars and cabeese, a hobby shop, the trains to ride, and a host of other goodies. One that I am still trying to tour is the Gabe Brooks Machine Shop. Mr. Brooks built the shop in 1930 by Gabe Brooks for his well drilling service and it still contains original machining equipment.
One interesting aspect of the park is that the 15-inch railway was built by the US Marine Corps as a training exercise; it was the early 1970s and some local yokels objected to using the military. Fortunately, Senator Goldwater intervened and USMC continued to help.
Some of the displays are seasonal. Please check with the park before visiting if you have something specific on your itinerant.
